What is success?
So this is a really interesting question and it's different for different people. So what success is for me might be completely different for you, and it's about working out what success means for you. So it could be wealth, it could be a certain status within your organisation, it could be balance, it could be a sense of high regard from other people. It doesn't really matter what success is, as long as you know what success is for you.
How do I work out my own definition of success?
So understanding your definition of success is vital in order for you to know when you've reached that sense of success, as in when you are successful. And one of the ways to do that is to take a period in your life where you felt really successful. It might be when you got promotion or maybe when you did really well in a presentation, or maybe somebody has seen you do something and they congratulated you. But really to sort of dive into that and think about what was that about that situation that made you feel so great, so successful, and start to build your definition of success around that, everybody's definition will be completely different. My definition is having a voice and having variety. I know that's only two words and not a true sentence, but for me, when I reach those things, that feels like success. So finding out what your definition of success is vital. In order for you to feel successful and to be successful,
What is purpose?
So your purpose is your why, and I like to think about it that if you had a T-shirt made and you were going to write your slogan, your strap line on the T-shirt, what would it be? Why do you get up in the morning? What is the reason for your existence? What do you bring to the table? Why are you here? All big questions but actually can be summarised in one sentence. That is your purpose and knowing it is really valuable for how you can work as an individual, but also how your organisation can move forwards.
