What are the key areas for diversity and inclusion?

I think when it comes to diversity and inclusion and the key areas, there are many different dimensions to workplace diversity and inclusion. And in all honesty, I think they're quite unlimited as well. But when we think about areas within the workplace, we are thinking about having a human centred approach to things. Having a people centred approach to things. So when workplaces are looking at writing policy, carrying out internal recruitment drives, all of these things should include things like race, gender, class, sexual orientation, because these are the processes and systems that will impact those people.

What is inclusion?

When an organisation tries to create an inclusive culture, inclusion is all about the actions and the behaviours that people foster to make sure that people feel welcomed and valued in the organisation.

What's belonging?

So belonging is a feeling. It's a feeling that somebody has on Sunday night before they wake up Monday morning for work. It's that feeling that they might experience in the pit of their stomach. If an organisation ist inclusive, it can be a feeling that you don't belong. But if an organisation is inclusive, belonging feels like you are connected to the people and the environment that you are in. Belonging happens in an organisation when people feel psychologically safe.
