What is energy management?

Energy is a life force. We all know about it, but few of us nurture it. In yoga, they call it prana. In my Chinese culture, they call it Q. If you are a fan of the Star Wars film franchise, you might call it the force, whatever we describe it as. We are talking about the same thing, and that energy determines how we show up and express ourselves each and every day. To manage our energy, we have to focus on these four dimensions, our physical energy, our mental energy, our emotional energy, and our spiritual energy. When we nurture each of those four dimensions, we elevate our energetic state and people can feel that because at the end of the day, people don't buy your products, your services, all your ideas as much as they buy into your energy.

How do I recognise my most energised state?

You recognise your most energised state by reflecting on how you feel at different moments throughout the day. It is why many people need to get more rest. For most of us, when we wake up in the morning, we already feel exhausted and drained before the day is even started. That's a good data point to record. At moments further, they ask yourself, how energised do I feel on a scale of zero to 10? Note that down. Once you begin to accumulate these data points, it will tell you a lot. It will tell you things such as, when am I most energised? When do I have the least levels of energy? And it forces you to understand why was I particularly energised at this point of the day? Why was I low on energy at this point of the day? And so once you know those different levels of energy for you and your schedule, it will give you the information for you to better plan your days, weeks, and months.

When do I know when to push and when to recoup?

We know when to push and to recoup by listening to our body, our body is always speaking to us. The question is, are we listening to it? The best time to push is when you feel energised, when you're meant mental state is of a level that you feel you can overcome. Whatever challenges have thrown your way. You know when to pull back, when you feel like you are low on energy, where you need to rest and take a break. So when you are feeling low in energy, often the best way to recoup that, to rejuvenate and to reset is to disconnect, to take time away from your screens, from your desk so that you can come back with the energy to focus on what is most important water. And when you elevate your energy, you give yourself the fuel to push when it is required so you can make meaningful progress forward in those areas of your life that matter most.
