Who are you?
I am Caroline Root House. I am a communications consultant. I'm a mom to two amazing girls. There's Evie, who's 15, and Ada, who is just eight. I love to work out, so I go to bootcamp three or four times a week, and my girls often come with me. I love cooking, travelling, and spending time with my beautiful girls.
What is your background?
So I was happily married to my husband, Steve. We had two young girls. Unfortunately, in 2018, Steve suddenly, and without warning, took his own life when my girls were just nine and two. I was working as a communications consultant at the time. I took some time off work, obviously, to work through the trauma and the shock that we faced as a family. But over time I have evolved into a very strong advocate for mental health and suicide. Postvention in particular, focusing heavily on what happens to a family after somebody has taken their own life, and how we can support somebody in that position.
What is Daddy Blackbird?
So Daddy Blackbird encompasses the journey that my girls and I have been on since my husband took his own life. It's turned into a book, which is now available for people to read, and it tells the whole story of what happened with my husband when he took his own life, and the journey that we've been on since then.
